Ducks and a cool evening.

Lately we've been trying to get out of the house more and take walks. Here we were greeted by hungry ducks waiting for food. Audrey kept very still and silent as she watched them.
Life has slowed down a bit for us. We sit on the couch and drink coffee with chocolate almond toast. Audrey has started to "talk" more and its hilarious. :)

Sushi on a hot day.

We are loving sushi these day! The best thing to eat in the summer i think. We are planning on making our own soon and its gonna be super fun! Also there were talks about trying to make our own pasta... Most of these ideas are brought to us by watching tons of Good Eats on Youtube! We love that show. :)

The last couple of days.

1. Homegrown tomatoes from my inlaws, ripening on our windowsill.
2. My little baby.
3. Folded laundry waiting forever to be put away..
4. Audrey is teething again.
5. Onions from my garden drying out.

Eating at home.

Zucchini and egg frittata with cherry tomatoes and cucumber.
Ham sandwich w/chips and zucchini carrot soup.
Store-bought pizza (with added toppings). Carrot sticks and cucumber.
Romaine salad w/tuna fish and croutons.

This week it has been HOT! Its very hard to muster up the strength to cook at home, so we have been eating out. A lot. At air conditioned restaurants. And it has been so delicious. And my i-love-eating-out heart is very happy.

We went to Costco and came back home with steaks. It was really hot inside again, so we went to the mall for a walk/window shopping/air conditioning.
Then we came home and ate the steaks. Yum. Audrey and Kitsya had a little bit too. (Neither of them really cared for it...)
This picture is at our house by our new fence. Our landlord had it put up a couple days ago. It makes our front yard feel nice and private.

Zucchini pickles.

Our zucchini plant has finally slowed down, but no worries, we still have loads of them in the fridge waiting to be eaten. I was talking to my mom and she gave me the idea of pickling them. Ive never thought of that before, but decided to give it a try and found a recipe online to follow.

Making pickles makes me think of living on a farm and the simpler things in life. Growing our own food and then preserving it so it lasts into the winter time. Taking care of chikens and baking bread. Sitting outside on the porch after a hot day, drinking iced tea. Something about that image really calls to our family. Maybe someday...

Eating solid foods.

There comes a stage in a baby's life (so ive heard) when they realize that they want to eat exactly what everyone else is eating. Audrey is at that stage now. As soon as she see's me sit down with a plate of food, she starts to get my attention by making noises and opening up her mouth. I have to eat on the sly sometimes so she doesn't know whats going on. But the good thing is that she is getting really good at feeding herself and eating chunks of food. I try to feed her different flavors so she is (hopefully) not a picky eater later.

So other than bites of everything that we grown ups eat, here's what else she has eaten recently:
Chunks of strawberry, peach, avocado, banana and kiwi.
Cubes of cooked potato, zucchini, mozzarella cheese, tofu, and feta cheese.
Cream of wheat, yogurt, hummus, and baby purees.
I have also flavored some of her foods with salt, curry powder, paprika, cinnamon, and dill.

Its definitely easier for me to feed her, but I like to give her a chance to pick chunky foods up herself and start learning how coordinate her fingers. One thing Im learning in general is that feeding babies is a messy business!!!

What we did today.

We dropped Audrey off at Viktor's parents house in the afternoon with the intention of coming home and taking naps. Why do we need naps during the day? Because the night before we stayed up till about 3 watching season 2 of Survivor on Youtube. Because we're weird like that. And we forgot that we were parents for a little bit. :)
Instead of napping right away, we decided to make some food on the grill. And it was good. I have a grill master as a husband.

*On a sad note Kitsya threw up on my shoes today. And we have ants. Yuck.

9 and a half months old.

I was trying to snap some pictures of Audrey today but all she wanted to do was crawl up my leg. Its what she likes to do these days. She is really good at playing by herself now, but every once in a while she wants to know that Im still there for her. So she crawls to me and pulls herself up by my pants. Its super cute, except when Im cooking.
Anyways, this bebe is so close to walking, I think. Im going to make a prediction that she will walk by 11 months...
But honestly, this age is so great right now! Its my favorite by far because she can get around by herself, babbles a lot, and is just a much happier and easier baby!

Garden update. (and a kitsya)

There's lots of green tomatoes growing in the garden right now. One plant especially took off really well. It makes my little heart glad! The carrots are looking big too, plus lots of zucchini are still coming. We also harvested some potatoes recently and put them into a burlap sack in the garage. (that makes me feel like such a farmer.) Im getting excited thinking about what to plant for the winter. Here's what Im thinking so far: beets, garlic, kale, more carrot, onion, radish and potato.
