Project yeast.

For some reason I have always been a little afraid of making anything that has yeast in it. It looked too challenging, with all the mixing and waiting for it to rise. Things like cinnamon rolls and pizza dough and bread (gasp!) seemed like they were for the professional cooks and I am just an amateur over here. And then I had a couple mishaps in the past with mixing pizza dough with too much flour and it looking way too hard to try to save. (poorly written recipe.) All these things have made me stay away.

Well, no more!!! :)
After having pretty successful results with the cinnamon rolls on Christmas, I am now feeling fearless! So I decided to challenge myself this upcoming year and make all sorts of recipes that call for yeast and rising and mixing. An early new year resolution, if you will.

For today, I made some pizza dough. From scratch. :) The recipe makes 2 crusts, but since we bake pizza on a cookie sheet and like it pretty thin, it made 4. I froze half of it and made the other 2 for dinner. Here's the recipe for the dough, and the BBQ chicken pizza topping. (we were out of fresh cheese, so i used Audrey's mozzarella cheese sticks instead.) :)

Family.

We spent the weekend in Portland, celebrating Christmas and my mom's birthday with my family. Its always so nice to see them and it makes me a little sad that we live far away from one another. But i guess that makes reunions so much better!
There was food and presents and lots of cartoons for Audrey since she was up way past her bedtime (10pm!!) ;) It was a great weekend and im already looking forward to the next time we all see each other.

Its official!

Audrey is walking and even dancing now! :) Its really cool to watch her walk, last night she was going around in circles and got pretty good at turning around and going in the other direction. Im very proud of my little girl, walking at 14 months.

Watching Audrey play.

Sometimes when Audrey is playing by herself, i get the urge to grab the camera and snap some pictures of her in-the-moment. She recently learned how to smell flowers and whenever there's one in a book she puts her nose to it and sniffs! So cute. :) And she even tries to say flowers, it come out as, "flah" or something like that.

Me and her have been watching Baby Einstein sign language together and she knows how to sign some words like milk, eat, daddy, and ball. Im very impressed because she can say some of them at the same time as she signs. And her walking is getting so much better, but she still falls on her knees a lot, whenever she gets nervous. Im really enjoying her this past week, she laughs a lot and loves it when i chase her around the house. :)

Have a holly jolly christmas.

We finally got our little Christmas tree! It makes me instantly happy when i look over at it. To get the full effect, i turned off the lights and turned on the fake fireplace on the TV. It felt real cozy... :)
So far Audrey has been pretty good about it, i let her touch the needles and made exaggerations about it being sooo pokey... hopefully it will discourage her . ;)

On a unrelated note, we are having a bit of a nap/sleep dilemma over here. Since Audrey has been about 8 months or so, she stopped taking more than one nap per day. (Her first nap is about 2-3 hours after she wakes up) Even if she's tired, if i try to put her to sleep for a second nap, she will just cry and refuse to fall asleep. So because of all this, we started putting her to bed earlier so she is not cranky. First bedtime was at 8pm. Then 7:30, then 7, then 6:30 and so on. Well it got to the point where now we can put her to bed at like 5:45 sometimes and she will basically sleep through the night until 8am. (she does have one feeding per night still at about 5 or 6.)

This all feels a little wrong to me, like its way too early.. But i don't know what else to do!
Tonight for example, around 5, she started carrying her stuffed duck around and every minute or so dropping to the floor to lay her head down and hug it. And she started to get pretty cranky and cry. This usually means she needs to sleep. But it was 5. So we wanted to wait a little longer until at least 6, because 5 is not normal... right? But when we did put her in her crib (at about 5:45) she fussed in there for like an hour until she fell asleep completely. So its like, obviously it was too early for bedtime, but she is too sleepy and cranky to play. And she refuses to take a second nap. So we are a little confused at what to do about all of this. Probably we will keep trying to have her take a second nap around 3 or 4pm, because this going to sleep super early business is making me a little worried. Any advice is appreciated! :)

Sharing and kissing.

There has been some kissing going on around here, and its not me and viktor. ;) Audrey learned to give kisses! Although she doesn't like being forced into it (who does?) and if i make her do it, she tries to hit my face.. Her favorite things to kiss (in order) are her stuffed animals, viktor, and then sometimes me. :( Mostly because i ask her to do it all the time and she's probably tired of me.

On another note, we're trying to figure out what to do about a christmas tree this year. Im almost positive that if we put one on the floor, Audrey will be constantly pulling it and i will have to be telling her "no" the whole day. We're thinking about getting a really small one and putting it up high on top of our record table.
So far we are not feeling too festive, mostly because it's been a hard week with Audrey. (some whining and tantrums) but hopefully once we get a tree in here, we will all feel a little happier! :)

Soup.

Hey, who remembers all that zucchini we had growing in our garden? Well, a couple months back i finally forced myself to freeze some of it, and im glad i did!
Enter this soup. It my version of the minestrone soup from Olive Garden, and its perfect for a cold, rainy day. And it has zucchini in it! Perfect.
I followed this recipe, except i left the soup chunky and added in cooked pasta. Next time i think i will also add some canned beans. Add grated Parmesan on top and enjoy!

(Also i adore reading joy the baker. She's the coolest!)
